KalshiInterest

Kalshi interest: what Kalshi pays on your balance, and when.

As of October 9, 2026, Kalshi pays a variable 3.50% APY on cash and open positions in accounts with $250 or more. Interest is calculated daily and posts in the first week of the next month as a credit, which also lands inside Kalshi’s P&L download. More than $10 of interest in a year is reported to the IRS on a 1099-INT.

The rate

Kalshi’s APY and what earns it.

A variable rate passed through from Kalshi’s banks, on positions as well as cash.

Kalshi’s APY help article reads: “The interest rate is set at 3.50% and will apply to all eligible accounts. This interest rate is variable and can change at any time.” Kalshi says it “passes on the interest they receive from their banking partners” and names no benchmark. The order ticket shows the same figure as “3.5% Interest”. Kalshi’s 2024 launch post tied the rate to the Federal Reserve’s; the current article does not.

The rate applies to open positions as well as cash: the article counts “the underlying collateral for your positions”, so money committed to a contract keeps earning until the position closes. Interest is paid only on balances of $250 or more, and only to eligible users in the United States and its territories.

The 3.25% figure is still live. On October 9, 2026, Kalshi’s Kalshi Klear article gave 3.25% while the APY article and the order ticket gave 3.50%. The APY article is the help page dedicated to the program. A rate missing from this table, such as one quoted only by a promotional site, is left out because no Kalshi page states it.

Kalshi pays interest as a credit. The September 2026 payment on the Realize founder’s account appears in three places, to the same second, and in a fourth not at all:

Kalshi’s Documents page says its P&L reflects closed positions “including fees and any credits or rebates you’ve received.” Interest is one of those credits, so the year’s P&L with fees already holds the interest that the 1099-INT reports. Adding the two together counts that interest twice; subtracting the credit rows from the P&L total leaves the trading result.

The same row type carries incentive credits. On this account, a $5.00 “Superbowl Deposit Delay Credit” in February and a −$5.00 “Expired Incentive Credit” in March both have Credit_Type incentive and net to zero in the P&L. Kalshi reports more than $600 of incentive credits a year on a 1099-MISC, with thresholds and the IRS line on Kalshi tax forms. How each column of the P&L download reads is on Kalshi data and exports.

The 1099-INT

Who gets a 1099-INT from Kalshi.

The form follows a dollar line on interest, not anything about trading.

Kalshi’s help center says: “If you earn more than $10 in interest payments annually, Kalshi is required to report this to the IRS.” $10 is also the IRS line for a 1099-INT (IRS instructions). Kalshi needs a Social Security Number on file to pay interest above $10 a year. At 3.50%, about $286 held for a full year crosses the line.

At the 3.50% APY in Kalshi’s help center on October 9, 2026, held for the full year at that rate. The rate is variable, so a real year can differ.

Interest reaches a return separately from trading results, however those are filed. The IRS says taxable interest is reported “even if you don’t receive a Form 1099-INT” (IRS Topic 403); the lines it goes on are on Kalshi taxes, and every form Kalshi sends is on Kalshi tax forms.

Questions

Questions people ask.

Does Kalshi pay interest?
Yes. As of October 9, 2026, Kalshi’s help center sets the rate at a variable 3.50% APY on cash and open positions, including the collateral behind a position, for accounts with a balance of $250 or more in the United States and its territories.
What is Kalshi’s APY?
3.50%, variable, as of October 9, 2026. Kalshi says it passes on the interest it receives from its banking partners and that the rate can change at any time. It announced 4.05% on October 10, 2024 and 4% on August 13, 2025, and its Kalshi Klear help article, dated March 10, 2026, gives 3.25%.
Was Kalshi’s interest rate 3.25%?
Kalshi’s help article on Kalshi Klear, dated March 10, 2026, gives 3.25% APY, and still did on October 9, 2026. Its APY article, the help page dedicated to the program, gives 3.50% on the same day, as does the order ticket.
When does Kalshi pay interest?
Monthly. Interest is calculated daily and paid normally within the first week of the following month, though Kalshi says it can take up to 10 business days. September 2026’s interest posted on October 6, 2026, labeled “Interest for September 2026”.
Is Kalshi interest on a 1099?
On a 1099-INT, above a dollar line. Kalshi says it reports more than $10 of interest a year to the IRS, and that a Social Security Number is needed to receive interest payments above $10 a year. At 3.50%, about $286 held for a full year earns $10.
Why does my Kalshi P&L include interest?
Kalshi pays interest as a credit, and its P&L download lists credits as rows beside trades. The Documents page says its P&L includes “fees and any credits or rebates”, so the P&L with fees total carries the same interest the 1099-INT reports.
